There are 3,000 species of nudibranchs, the formal name for sea slugs, living in all the oceans of the world.  They range from tiny ones (1/8th of an inch long) to big ones as much as a foot long and 2 pounds in weight.

Sea slugs comes in every imaginable color combination and in an amazing assortment of shapes.  But they all have one thing in common:  like the Spanish shawl nudibranch here, they wear their gills--the equivalent of lungs--like decorations on the outside of their body.  With colorful, beautiful creatures like these nudibranchs, the sea is a never-ending source of wonder.
