furry floater

They dive among kelp beds, float along the ocean's surface and bob with the waves.  Furry, fuzzy, playful sea otters are members of the weasel family that live off the coast of California, Alaska and Russia's Kuril Islands.  Compared to other marine mammals, sea otters are slow swimmers and shallow divers. They make short dives of a minute or two to look for shellfish 10-30 feet below the surface in coastal waters . . . although, if it is scared, an otter can do an escape dive for up to four minutes!  Click here for more about sea otters.
