| The octopus is the most intelligent
invertebrate (creature without a spine). Captain Jacques Cousteau once put
food in a glass jar with a cork stopper, and set the jar before a hungry octopus.
It didn't take long for the octopus to figure out how to uncork the jar and reach
its dinner. |
The name octopus means "eight
feet" (or arms). The octopus, like the squid and nautilus, belongs
to the class of animals called cephalopods, which means "head + feet"
(or arms). Both words are good descriptions of this creature with a large
